V Music Festival
One
of the true big-hitters of the festival scene, the V Festival is
certainly in the top echelons of the summer festival season in
Britain. It hasn’t been going for as long as some of the other big
players like Glastonbury or the Leeds Festival but, what it lacks
in experience, this festival really makes up for in youthful
exuberance and a streak of daring which you only get in the young,
and the young-at heart of course!
Over the past 15 years, the V Festival has slowly been building a
reputation for itself and, a few years ago when the zeitgeist of
festival-going kicked into overdrive, this was one of the
festivals which benefited; it is now one of the destinations on
the festival circuit- an accolade which it is harder and harder to
achieve with more and more festivals popping up all the time.
Indeed, this festival is so big that it has to be held across
entirely different venues, one in Chelmsford and one in South
Staffordshire. These certainly aren’t two places which are
synonymous with the rock-and-roll lifestyle and great music but,
when the V Festival’s in town, they certainly change.
Because the festival has become so popular over the last few
years, you really need to make sure that you
get your tickets
early- they are known to change hands at later dates for
extortionate amounts on the internet- get in early to make sure
you don’t end up paying over the odds at a later date; at least
you know you’re going to get a great-line up for your money with
huge acts such as Lady Gaga, MGMT and Supergrass all playing in
the last few years.
Interestingly, the festival has quite unusual origins. It started
as a way for Jarvis Cocker to organise two Pulp gigs in two
different locations over two days- this idea eventually built into
the festival which we know and love today. There’s always an
eclectic mix of talent so you can be sure that everybody will be
at least partially suited with what they are watching and, aside
from that, the atmosphere of the whole weekend is such that you
are guaranteed to have a good time no matter what. So, grab your
tent and we’ll meet you down there!
